Clean off Debris After Every Meal
One of the simplest things you can do to keep those chair cushions clean longer is to make sure to remove all the debris from the cushions immediately after every meal.
Either untie the cushions and shake them off or vacuum off all of those loose crumbs.
Do not brush them off, as a brush may actually work softer food crumbs into the cushions rather than removing them from the cushions’ surface.
Be sure to lift the cushion, and clean under it, because any crumbs that work their way under the cushion can be grounded in to the underside of the cushion unless removed immediately.
Blot Stains Immediately
If you spill something on those chair cushions, blot the stain immediately.
The best way to clean a stain is to take a clean cloth and blot (not rub) the excess liquid up immediately.
Then using a mild cleaning solution, soda, or just plain water, spray the stained area soaking it well, and using another clean cloth blot it again.
Continue to do this until the stain is completely gone. Allow to air dry before sitting on it again.
Keep a list of cleaning products that work for different types of stains handy, so that you can use the right cleaning agent on the specific type of spill on that chair cushion.
For example, club soda will dilute a red wine stain and if used immediately may rid you of that stain entirely.
For coffee stains, a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water can usually remove the stain.
However, keep in mind when you first purchase your chair cushions, you should read the manufacturer’s care instructions, as certain materials such as some natural fabrics need to be treated differently than synthetic fabrics.
Deep Cleaning Those Chair Cushions
Periodically you are going to want to deep clean your chair cushions.
The first thing you need to consider is the type of material used in the chair cushion.
Some materials can just be wiped off with a damp cloth, others need to be taken to the dry cleaners.
Most cushions can easily be steam cleaned and then hung up to dry. Allow them to dry completely before replacing them back on the chair.
In addition, hanging them up outside to dry will help to give them a fresh clean outdoor smell that will add to their overall cleanliness.
In most cases, acting fast to keep your chair cushions looking good combined with a regular deep cleaning will keep those chair cushions clean and new looking longer.
